Michael Roberts was born in Sussex, England and began playing the piano at age four. From 1967 to 1975 he was production manager for Harold Prince in London's West End. In 1970 he became a dance accompanist for the Royal Ballet School. In 1975 he moved to Los Angeles where he works as a dance accompanist and composer.
He has appeared in numerous shows and the movie Six Weeks with Mary Tyler Moore, as well as playing for Juliet Prowse, who has endorsed his five dance record albums. Other compositions include two New Age Ablums, three Theatre Musicals, as well as dance compositions.
For 22 years he was on the faculty at the California Institute of the Arts.
He was also Music Director of Pasadena Dance Theatre.
Currently he is full time faculty and Music Coordinator at Colburn Dance Institute at the Colburn School for the Performing Arts in downtown L.A. www.colburnschool.edu The dance program is run by Glenn Edgerton (former director of NDT) and Leslie Crothers (former principal dancer Joffrey and Pennsylvania Ballets)
